First chemo
Uncategorized August 22nd, 2013Nevada had her first IV chemo on Tuesday morning. It was pretty uneventful other than after a couple minutes she decided she had enough of laying down and wanted to get up. The tech was pretty much hugging her to try to keep her still as I spoke to her and petted her head. Both Tuesday night and Wednesday night there was a point where she “smiled.” Her lips curled up and we thought for sure she was going to throw up, but she never did. We’ve been slowly backing off her Rimadyl and changing over to a grain-free diet. So a lot of changes going on with her body, but so far (knock on wood) everything is going very well. It’s nice to get one round of chemo under our belts and know we have a 3 week wait before needing to go back to the vet. Sometimes I feel we’ve lived there over the last couple months!

My girl had her first chemo last week, and isn’t it good to get the initial one over? It’s hard to know what to expect as every doggie seems to react so differently, so I am glad Nevada is not having the side effects some pups have, which has to make the second one easier for you.

It does feel good to have one down! I keep telling myself not to feel too excited as we’re alternating chemo types, so we may not be this lucky next time. I’ll have to find your page to see how things are going for your dog!

Sounds like all went well. I know that feeling of living at the vet. Seems unusual when I haven’t been there at least once a week! Stay tough Nevada!

CONGRATULATIONS NEVADA! One chemo treatment under your puppy belt! Good job!
So you got to stay with Nevada during chemo? That’s pretty special!
Nevada has such a sweet face…woud love to see more pictures!
You stay strong Nevada. Now, some dogs do have a little nausea and a little tiredness, but sounds like you’re bypassing all that! Good job!
Extra cookies for you tonight. Of course, only “healthy” ones!
Applauding you!

Yes, this vet prefers you stay while your dog is getting chemo to try to keep them calm. I’m not sure all places do it like that, but I thought this was great so I could watch what happens and not have to wonder. In the end it was pretty boring and uneventful, which is great as it eased my mind even more!

Hey Nevada I’m so hoppy to hear you got that behind you. Just a few more to go and you won’t have to go back to the V-E-T for a long time hopefully!
I’m really glad you’re sharing your chemo experience, ’cause pawrents need all of the information and experiences they can get when making that big decision. Thank you!

Thank YOU, Jerry! This website has been so helpful with reading other’s experiences and your responses! I can’t imagine how much harder it would have been if I didn’t have this place to learn from and vent to!
