Stitches are out!
Uncategorized August 15th, 2013Stitches are out and our tummy is almost purple-less! It’s been a long 2 weeks. Nevada was really acting tired and depressed so the vet had us stop one of her pain medications to see how it went. It made a huge difference in her demeanor when we stopped the Tramadol. She’s still tired and not as active as usual, but it’s much better. When she’s up and about, she’s really good, but when she’s laying down, she often prefers to stay there. Like when we come home, normally she’d run to greet the new arrival, but now she only occasionally checks to see who’s here. She’ll just stay where she’s laying and watch to see who comes around the corner before she decides if she wants to get up. I assume it’s tiring to get up when there’s only one back leg to help you get there. I’m hoping this will improve with time, but I can’t help wondering if we were too late. I’m trying to be optimistic about everything, but it’s hard. I’ll be calling the other vet today to set up our first chemo appointment for next week. On a happy note, she will be so happy to see where we’re going this weekend. She LOVES going to our cabin, but we haven’t gone for a couple weeks as it would be too hard for her. With stitches out, we’re thinking it’s time to go again. We’ll need to be careful with how much activity she does as normally she’d run around the yard for long periods of time. We’ll need to make her take it easy, but she’ll be so happy to be there again so we’re excited for her!
Wishing all other tripawds and owners a great weekend!

Going through this right now, too! My Toto will have her stitches come out this Tuesday. She was so “off” when she was taking tramadol that I took her off of it a week or so before surgery. She wouldn’t eat and her eyes even looked heavy! She had a fentanyl patch on after her amputation…and now that it’s off she seems much more herself. Give it a several days for the tramadol to be out of her…I’ll bet that was a great deal of her weariness. (In my humble opinion :0) Toto has had good and bad days..and she, too, had her front leg amputated, so some difference. But I coaxed her to go outside and threw a ball for her the other day…just a few feet…and she was very happy to be doing something she had missed. So, it sounds like a trip to your cabin, a place she loves, may be just the therapy she’ll need. Please keep us posted! I can SO relate to this post. 🙂

She looks like she’s healing very well. Taking her to a favorite place will do her wonders! Our dog Hunter also had a rear leg amputated. It’s never to late to help them relieve that awful pain. Within 2 months he was doing a flight of stairs! Dogs are VERY resilient. Hopefully she will handle chemo well. For support and some insight, please feel free to read our dog’s blog. He is our hero. He had 12 great months as a tripawd and then another 2 months with ups and downs. He was diagnosed at almost 9 years old with osteosarcoma. You will have more time with her. Don’t think of it any other way… if you stay positive, she’ll pull through for all of you. Angle Hunter’s blog is http://www.superdog.tripawd.com. Maybe don’t read our last post first, it’s a sad one and you are NOT there yet. Start at the beginning and look at some of his photos. He had an amazing following and so will Nevada. Feel free to PM me with any questions. Everyone here will be strong for you. Julie

Nevada, you are so beautiful! Those eyes are made for melting hearts!
NO WORRIES! Nevada is doing great for this early in recovery! I KNOW it’s hard to be patient, but her sparkle will come back, getting up to greet you will become her normal routne again soon!
She’s building strengthin muscles she’s never had to use before and still reovering from major surgery. Imagine if this happened to a human—they’d still be in the hospital! I ASSURE you, this has NOTHING to do with “being too late” and everything to do with a normal recocery. Actualy, this even sounds a little ahead of the curve!
I can remember the first night Happy Hannah finally got up and greeted me at the door with her welcomng wooing and tail waggng! It was almost four weeks out!
I’m sure the stimulaitions at the cabin will give her a little attitude boost. Just make sure she takes it real slow with lots of sitting and resting.
Have a lovey time and take lots of photos. Her poto of her incision site looks really good. YAY for stitches being out!
Remember, no worries. Nevada is livi g in the moment loving being with you. It’s hard, but don’t waste on precious moment of this incredible time on anything that’s not related to loving and spoiling!
Can’t wait to see the next photos! Nevada, you are beautiful!
